Well, you’ve come this far so I may as well spill the beans…
I’m a first time mum at 40 years old, soon to be 41, and now with a newborn at hand. Motherhood is the hardest challenge I have had to face on my journey. My two children are boys; the eldest will be two years old in June, and the youngest is almost 4 months born in January of this year. They are my new and improved motivators in life, and I look forward to being engaged in their education and, living and learning with them throughout their personal and professional lives.
After 20 years in the building industry, I have retired to raise my children in an eclectic homeschool environment.
I plan to homeschool for as long as possible; at least up to six or eight years of age at which time I will re-assess the family position and outlook. In order for me to be able to do this I will have to keep up with educational trends. Courses such as the one I am undertaking now; “Teaching in a digital age” and “Montessori practical life” will prepare me with the basic knowledge that will get my two children off to a good start.
There is much to learn and a great deal of preparatory work in this path I have chosen. I feel that I am ready for this new commitment and dedicate the rest of my life to a greater purpose – someone else’s life. I hope to make an impact through my homeschooling approach that will develop independent leadership skills for a successful and most importantly, happy life for both of my children.
I am looking forward to this journey; I know it will not be easy, and I know it will be worth it.
